Best Diablo 4 class builds: Rogue, Druid, Necromancer, Sorcerer, and Barbarian
If you use these builds, Lilith's forces won't stand a chance.
The best part of ARPGs like Diablo 4 is crafting powerful character builds, especially now that we're in Season 2 of the game's service life cycle. As each season brings about patches and balancing tweaks, the landscape of optimal character builds evolves, keeping the gameplay fresh and engaging.
It can be quite challenging to navigate the vast array of talents available for all five classes, and maximizing the efficiency and synergy of your skill points. We've been exploring various build concepts since the early stages of the game's Early Access, which began in March all the way up to its current Season, Season of Blood.
Through this journey, we've uncovered several exceptional builds that will provide a significant advantage against the formidable forces of Lilith. In this guide, we'll introduce our favorite builds for each Diablo 4 class. You'll find insights into skills, upgrades, leveling strategies, and gameplay tactics that make these builds shine. These builds will perform well in both the Eternal Realm and the Seasonal Realm.
Best Diablo 4 Necromancer build guide: Leveling, endgame, and skills
The Necromancer was one of the strongest classes in Diablo 4 during its March betas, but since then, nerfs to its summons and its low mobility have knocked it to the bottom of the meta. With that said, you can still make a very powerful and viable Necromancer setup by building around Bone Spear, a Core talent that's arguably the best option on the Necromancer skill tree. It allows you to fire high damage projectiles at enemies that pierce through them and hit multiple targets, which then shatter into smaller projectiles for even more damage. Unlike most Core talents, Bone Spear is excellent for both single-target sniping and area-of-effect (AoE) monster clearing, making it extremely versatile and reliable throughout the leveling process and the endgame grind.
You'll mainly use the Bone Splinters Basic talent to build up your Essence resource, which will then be used on Bone Spear casts. You'll also use Corpse Explosion to dish out hard-hitting AoE damage, Corpse Tendrils to Stun and Slow foes and make them Vulnerable (this debuff makes enemies take 20% more damage), Blood Mist for temporary damage immunity and healing utility, and the Bone Storm Ultimate to shred dangerous mobs that are close to you.
Level | Skill | Type |
---|---|---|
2 | Bone Splinters | Basic |
Row 1 - Cell 0 | Use Raise Skeleton | Book of the Dead |
3 | Enhanced Bone Splinters | Basic |
4 | Bone Spear | Core |
5 | Enhanced Bone Spear | Core |
Row 5 - Cell 0 | Use Skeletal Warriors - Skirmishers | Book of the Dead |
6 | Supernatural Bone Spear | Core |
Row 7 - Cell 0 | Respec to Paranormal Bone Spear after getting the Splintering Offensive Aspect from the Guulrhan Slums dungeon later | Respec After Gear Acquisition |
7 | Bone Spear | Core |
8 | Blood Mist | Macabre |
Row 10 - Cell 0 | Sacrifice Skeletal Warriors - Skirmishers | Book of the Dead |

12-14 | Bone Spear x3 | Core |
15-17 | Grim Harvest x3 | Corpse |
Row 16 - Cell 0 | Sacrifice Skeletal Mages - Cold | Book of the Dead |
18 | Hewed Flesh | Core |
19 | Corpse Tendrils | Corpse |
20 | Enhanced Corpse Tendrils | Corpse |
21 | Plagued Corpse Tendrils | Corpse |

Row 27 - Cell 0 | Sacrifice Golems - Iron | Book of the Dead |
35 | Ossified Essence | Key Passive |
36 | Bone Storm | Ultimate |
37 | Prime Bone Storm | Ultimate |
38 | Supreme Bone Storm | Ultimate |
39-42 | Corpse Explosion x3 | Corpse |
43 | Unliving Energy | Core |
44-46 | Imperfectly Balanced x3 | Core |
47-48 | Hewed Flesh x2 | Core |
49 | Stand Alone | Ultimate |
Renown 1-3 | Fueled by Death | Corpse |
Renown 4 | Stand Alone | Ultimate |
Renown 5-6 | Unliving Energy | Core |
Renown 7 | Acolyte's Bone Splinters | Basic |
Renown 8-10 | Death's Reach | Curse |
Passive skills like Serration, Compound Fracture, Evulsion, Imperfectly Balanced, and the Ossified Essence Key Passive all significantly raise the damage and Critical Hit Chance of your Bone Spears. Unliving Energy, Grim Harvest, Hewed Flesh, meanwhile, ensure that you'll have plenty of Corpses to use and make it easier to generate lots of Essence.
For this build, it's better to sacrifice your minions for the strong passive bonuses you get than it is to summon them, so you should do so with your Skeletal Warriors and Mages to get extra Critical Strike Chance and damage against Vulnerable foes. You'll use your Bone Golem in battle once you reach Level 25, though you should swap to and sacrifice Iron Golems for the massive extra 30% Critical Strike Damage at Level 32. The passive Stand Alone and Momento Mori skills provide benefits for sacrificing, with the former giving you a nice chunk of damage reduction and the latter improving your sacrifice bonuses.
With the extra skill points you can earn from Diablo 4's Renown system, it's best to further upgrade your passives and invest in the Fueled by Death talent for extra damage after using Corpses. Acolyte's Bone Splinters should also be taken so that your Basic skill raises your Critical Hit Chance, and Death's Reach is great for raising your Bone Spear DPS against faraway targets.
Best Necromancer Aspects, gear, and gems
Here are the Legendary Aspects we recommend looking for as you take this Necromancer build past the campaign and into the endgame.
Aspect | Effect | Location |
---|---|---|
Splintering Offensive Aspect | Bone Spear's primary attack makes enemies hit beyond the first Vulnerable for [1.5-2.5] seconds. Bone Shards from Bone Spear deal [50-100%] bonus damage to Vulnerable enemies and pierce them. | Guulrahn Slums, Dry Steppes |
Resource Aspect of the Umbral | Restore [1-4] resource of your Primary Resource when you Crowd Control an enemy. | Champion's Demise, Dry Steppes |
Resource Aspect of Torment | Critical Strikes with Bone Skills increase your Essence Regeneration by [20-30]%[x] for 4 seconds. | Black Asylum, Fractured Peaks |
Additionally, you should also keep an eye out for the below Unique items as you grind endgame activities like Nightmare Dungeons or Helltides.
Unique Item | Type | Bonus |
---|---|---|
Deathless Visage | Helm | Bone Spear leaves behind echoes as it travels that explode, dealing [10 - 3,175] damage. |
Black River | Scythe | Corpse Explosion consumes up to 4 additional Corpses around the initial Corpse, dealing [122 - 130]% increased damage and with a [21 - 25]% larger radius per additional Corpse. |
Fists of Fate | Gloves | Your attacks randomly deal 1% to [200 – 300]% of their normal damage |
You should also add these gems to your weapons, armor, and jewelry to get some valuable stat buffs.
- Weapon: Sapphires (extra Critical Strike Damage against Crowd Controlled enemies)
- Armor: Skulls (improved healing from Blood Mist)
- Jewelry: Diamond (extra resistance to all elements)
Best Diablo 4 Druid build guide: Leveling, endgame, and skills
There are lots of great Druid builds in Diablo 4 thanks to the incredible skill diversity in the class' kit. After experimenting with the Druid skill tree extensively — we've tried everything from a Werewolf setup with Rabies and wolf companions to an approach that was completely centered around Storm and Earth Magic — we've settled on a build that takes advantage of the Werebear form's brawling abilities and the amazing Pulverize AoE Core skill.
Early on, you'll use Storm Strike for the 25% damage resistance it provides to counteract the Druid's early game squishiness. Once you unlock and max out Rampaging Pulverize and pick up Earthen Bulwark for defensive utility, you can swap it for Maul. At this point, Pulverize will frequently Stun foes and deal Overpower damage, while Maul will ensure you're almost always in your tanky Werebear form.
After this, you'll take Trample for its value as a mobility and initiation tool, Mending for extra healing from potions, and Provocation for even more Overpower damage every 20 seconds. Next, get the Grizzly Rage Ultimate for the massive damage and damage resistance buffs the Ultimate gives you, along with passives that bolster your offense and defense like Wild Impulses, Predatory Instinct, and Iron Fur. Ursine Strength raises your health by 20% when you're in Werebear form (you very rarely won't be), so choosing this Key Passive for the build is a no-brainer.
Level | Skill | Type |
---|---|---|
2 | Storm Strike | Basic |
3 | Enhanced Storm Strike | Basic |
4 | Fierce Storm Strike | Basic |
5 | Pulverize | Core |
6 | Enhanced Pulverize | Core |
7 | Raging Pulverize | Core |
8-11 | Pulverize x4 | Core |
12 | Earthen Bulwark | Defensive |
13 | Enhanced Earthen Bulwark | Defensive |
14 | Preserving Earthen Bulwark | Defensive |
15 | Heart of the Wild | Core |
16-18 | Abundance x3 | Core |
Row 12 - Cell 0 | Respec Storm Strike into Maul, Enhanced Maul, and Fierce Maul | Respec |
19 | Trample | Wrath |
20 | Mending | Wrath |
21-23 | Provocation x3 | Wrath |
24 | Poison Creeper | Companion |
25 | Grizzly Rage | Ultimate |
26 | Prime Grizzly Rage | Ultimate |
27 | Supreme Grizzly Rage | Ultimate |
28-30 | Wild Impulses x3 | Core |
31-33 | Predatory Instinct x3 | Core |
34 | Iron Fur | Core |
35 | Ursine Strength | Key Passive |
Row 24 - Cell 0 | Acquire Offensive Aspect of the Ursine Horror gear (Aspect is available from Belfry Zakara in Hawezar) | Gear Acquisition |
Row 25 - Cell 0 | Acquire Utility Aspect of Quicksand gear (Aspect is available from Ferals' Den in Scosglen) | Gear Acquisition |
36-38 | Crushing Earth x3 | Wrath |
Row 27 - Cell 0 | Respec Raging Pulverize into Primal Pulverize | Respec |
39-41 | Defiance x3 | Ultimate |
42-44 | Stone Guard x3 | Wrath |
45-46 | Iron Fur x2 | Core |
47-49 | Defensive Posture x3 | Ultimate |
Renown 1-4 | Earthen Bulwark x4 | Defensive |
Renown 5-7 | Safeguard x3 | Wrath |
Renown 8 | Enhanced Trample | Wrath |
Renown 9 | Natural Trample | Wrath |
Renown 10 | Circle of Life | Ultimate |
The build truly starts to take off once you get some gear with the Offensive Aspect of the Ursine Horror and Utility Aspect of Quicksand on it (use the Codex of Power if you don't find the Aspects in the wild). The former transforms Pulverize into an Earth skill and adds tectonic spikes that deal damage-over-time (DoT) after each cast, while the latter Slows enemies hit by Earth skills by 25-50%. Together, these two Aspects make Pulverize even deadlier, give it additional utility, and make it compatible with powerful damage buff passives like Crushing Earth and Defiance.
Respec Raging Pulverize to Primal Pulverize (the Stuns it provides won't get much value anymore now that you're Slowing everything), and cap the build off with Stone Guard, extra levels of Iron Fur, and Defensive Posture for increased Fortify gains from all your Fortify-generating skills.
With your Renown skill points, fully upgrade Earthen Bulwark and invest in Safeguard for even more Fortify tankiness. Upgrading Trample to Natural Trample will help you get Fortify as well, and Circle of Life will make your Earth version of Pulverize restore lost HP with Mending-enhanced healing.
Best Druid Aspects, gear, and gems
In addition to the Aspects that are already crucial for the Pulverize build, these will enhance it even further.
Aspect | Effect | Location |
---|---|---|
Aspect of Retaliation | Your Core skills deal up to [20-40]%[x] increased damage based on your amount of Fortify. | Seaside Descent, Dry Steppes |
Aspect of the Changeling's Debt | Damaging a Poisoned enemy with a Werebear Skill will instantly deal [120-150]% of the Poisoning damage and consume the Poisoning. | Conclave, Kehjistan |
Aspect of the Rampaging Werebeast | The duration of Grizzly Rage is increased by [1-5] seconds. In addition, Critical Strikes while Grizzly Rage is active increase your Critical Strike Damage by 10%[x] for the duration. | Endless Gates, Hawezar |
And these are the Uniques that synergize with this build. Keep an eye out for them as you play through the endgame.
Unique Item | Type | Bonus |
---|---|---|
Vasily's Prayer | Helm | Your Earth Skills are now also Werebear Skills and Fortify you. |
Insatiable Fury | Chest | Werebear form is now your true form, and you gain +2 Ranks to all Werebear Skills. |
Mother's Embrace | Ring | If a Core Skill hits 5 or more enemies, (20-40)% of the Resource cost is refunded |
Finally, make sure you slot your gear with the following gems for bonuses that synergize well with this setup.
- Weapon: Ruby (adds Overpower damage)
- Armor: Sapphire (damage reduction while Fortified)
- Jewelry: Skulls (extra Armor points)
Best Diablo 4 Sorcerer build guide: Leveling, endgame, and skills
The Sorcerer is the best Diablo 4 class for dealing ranged damage, and overall, the Sorcerer skill tree is quite diverse. Ahead of launch, we favored a setup with a combination of Frost and Pyromancy, but in the full game, we've found this build that goes all in on Arc Lash Basic skill and the Chain Lightning Core skill to be the most effective. Arc Lash does fantastic DPS despite being a Basic skill, while Chain Lightning's lethal AoE makes it perfect for clearing rooms of trash mobs. As such, you'll want to fully upgrade and max out both of them early on. Unstable Currents, your Ultimate, has an extremely long cooldown but is also incredibly powerful, so you should save it for boss fights and groups of Elites.
You'll also want to take Teleport, Ice Armor, and Frost Nova, all three of which offer phenomenal defensive utility that will carry you to the endgame and beyond. Teleport should be used to escape close-range foes or deadly incoming attacks, while Ice Armor absorbs damage and also boosts your Mana regen when enhanced. Frost Nova is your "panic button" that Freezes all monsters around you when you cast it and makes them Vulnerable when upgraded.
Level | Skill | Type |
---|---|---|
2 | Arc Lash | Basic |
3 | Enhanced Arc Lash | Basic |
4 | Flickering Arc Lash | Basic |
5 | Chain Lightning | Core |
6 | Enhanced Chain Lightning | Core |
7 | Greater Chain Lightning | Core |
8 | Teleport | Defensive |
9 | Ice Armor | Defensive |
10 | Frost Nova | Defensive |
11-14 | Chain Lightning x4 | Core |
15-18 | Arc Lash x4 | Basic |
Row 11 - Cell 0 | Enchantment Slot 1: Chain Lightning | Enchantment Slot |

20 | Mystical Frost Nova | Defensive |
21 | Enhanced Teleport | Defensive |
22 | Shimmering Teleport | Defensive |
23 | Enhanced Ice Armor | Defensive |
24 | Align the Elements | Conjuration |
25 | Unstable Currents | Ultimate |
26 | Prime Unstable Currents | Ultimate |
27 | Protection | Conjuration |
28-29 | Glass Cannon x2 | Defensive |
30 | Fire Bolt | Basic |
Row 23 - Cell 0 | Enchantment Slot 2: Fire Bolt | Enchantment Slot |
31-33 | Fiery Surge | Ultimate |
34 | Glass Cannon | Defensive |
35 | Vyr's Mastery | Key Passive |
36 | Coursing Currents | Ultimate |
37-39 | Electrocution | Ultimate |
40 | Endless Pyre | Ultimate |
41-43 | Warmth | Ultimate |
44 | Devastation | Core |
45-47 | Elemental Dominance | Core |
48-49 | Icy Veil x2 | Mastery |
Renown 1 | Icy Veil | Mastery |
Renown 2-3 | Protection x2 | Conjuration |
Renown 4-6 | Mana Shield x3 | Conjuration |
Renown 7-10 | Teleport x4 | Defensive |
For your Enchantment Slots, use Chain Lightning for the first one and Fire Bolt for the second. Enchanting Chain Lightning will make an additional Chain Lightning cast proc when you have over 100 Mana, while Fire Bolt will add additional Burning damage to your attacks that lets you benefit from passives like Fiery Surge (extra Mana regen when killing Burning enemies), Warmth (health regen when near Burning enemies), and Endless Pyre (extra Burning damage to foes already Burning).
Some other excellent passives to use for damage bonuses are Glass Cannon, Coursing Currents, and Elemental Dominance, with your Key Passive Vyr's Mastery buffing Shock damage and also providing you with 20% damage resistance. Align the Elements, Protection, Electrocution, and Icy Veil, meanwhile, shore up your defenses and make you more resilient.
With your final 10 capstone points from your Renown, fully upgrading Icy Veil, Protection, and Teleport will maximize your defensive utility. Mana Shield is also worth investing in, as it'll provide some extra damage resistance whenever you use 100 Mana.
Best Sorcerer Aspects, gear, and gems
These Legendary Aspects will enhance this build as you delve into the endgame, making it even more powerful.

To bolster your offense and defense, make sure you socket these gems into your equipment for their bonuses.
- Weapon: Topaz (extra Basic skill damage)
- Armor: Diamond (adds Barrier generation)
- Jewelry: Diamond (adds resistance to all elements)
Best Diablo 4 Rogue build guide: Leveling, endgame, and skills
Rogue has become one of the most powerful classes in Diablo 4 thanks to the insane damage you can dish out with a Twisting Blades build. This is easily the best talent on the Rogue skill tree, as it impales enemies on your blades, which then through foes for even more damage as they return to you. The goal of this setup is to maximize the damage each use of Twisting Blades does with mobility, crowd control, and various buffs while also ensuring that you have plenty of defensive options to counteract the Rogue's inherent squishiness.
First, you'll take and upgrade Puncture for its solid damage output, ability to Slow and make enemies Vulnerable, and Energy resource generation. Then, you'll get Twisting Blades and upgrade it to Advanced Twisting Blades for faster subsequent cooldowns. Dash and Shadow Step are phenomenal mobility skills that make it easy to "guide" your returning Twisting Blades through crowds of enemies while also dealing extra damage, with Dark Shroud shadows giving you a powerful damage reduction buff.
Level | Skill | Type |
---|---|---|
2 | Puncture | Basic |
3 | Enhanced Puncture | Basic |
4 | Fundamental Puncture | Basic |
5 | Twisting Blades | Core |
6 | Enhanced Twisting Blades | Core |

8 | Dash | Agility |
9 | Shadow Step | Agility |
10-12 | Twisting Blades x3 | Core |
13 | Dark Shroud | Subterfuge |
14 | Enhanced Dark Shroud | Subterfuge |
15 | Subverting Dark Shroud | Subterfuge |
Row 12 - Cell 0 | Combo Points Specialization | Specialization |
16 | Poison Trap | Subterfuge |
17 | Enhanced Poison Trap | Subterfuge |
18 | Twisting Blades | Core |
19 | Enhanced Shadow Step | Agility |
20 | Methodical Shadow Step | Agility |
Row 18 - Cell 0 | Switch Combo Points to Inner Sight | Specialization |
21-23 | Exploit x3 | Subterfuge |
24 | Sturdy | Core |
25-27 | Innervation x3 | Ultimate |
28 | Adrenaline Rush | Ultimate |
29-31 | Haste x3 | Ultimate |
32-34 | Trap Mastery x3 | Ultimate |
35 | Momentum | Key Passive |
36-38 | Concussive x3 | Agility |
39-41 | Siphoning Strikes x3 | Core |
42 | Deadly Venom | Imbuement |
43 | Alchemical Advantage | Imbuement |
44-46 | Debilitating Toxins x3 | Imbuement |
47-49 | Weapon Mastery | Agility |
Renown 1-3 | Shutter Step x3 | Core |
Renown 4 | Enhanced Dash | Agility |
Renown 5 | Disciplined Dash | Agility |
Renown 6-8 | Malice x3 | Subterfuge |
Renown 9-10 | Dash x2 | Agility |
Next, you'll fully upgrade Twisting Blades for maximum damage while also picking up Poison Trap and enhancing it so your traps Knock Down foes in addition to poisoning them, making it easier to maneuver. Then, upgrade to Methodical Shadow Step so that it Stuns enemies, and at Level 20, choose the Inner Sight Specialization that gives you unlimited Energy for several seconds after hitting enough targets marked with a purple eye icon. While this buff is active, you can launch tons of Twisting Blades attacks without having to worry about resource management.
Take Momentum as your Key Passive for the massive increase to movement speed, damage reduction, and Energy regen it provides. Then, to buff up your offense and uptime, you want lots of other passive skills. Exploit, Innervation, Adrenaline Rush, Haste, Trap Mastery, Concussive, Deadly Venom, Alchemical Advantage, and Weapon Mastery are our favorites. Sturdy, Siphoning Strikes, and Debilitating Toxins, meanwhile, are potent defensive passives that reduce incoming damage or heal you as you tear through Lilith's armies.
There's not much you can do to elevate the build further once you reach Level 50 and can put your extra Renown points to good use, though upgrading Dash and getting both Shutter Step and Malice for a bit of extra damage doesn't hurt.
Best Rogue Aspects, gear, and gems
These Legendary Aspects will make this already-great build even stronger, so make sure you hunt them down as you move from leveling to endgame.

- Jewelry: Skulls (adds extra Armor points)
Best Diablo 4 Barbarian build guide: Leveling, endgame, and skills
Last but certainly not least is the Barbarian, which skyrocketed to the top of Diablo 4's endgame meta after the class got some big buffs ahead of Diablo 4's official launch. Though there are several good talents and setups you can put together with the Barbarian skill tree, nothing tops a build centered around the mobility of the Lunging Strike Basic skill and the class' iconic Whirlwind Core skill. The former makes it incredibly easy to leap between targets and generate tons of Fury to use with the latter, allowing you to shred entire rooms of monsters to pieces in seconds with Whirlwind's deadly AoE.
In addition to your core rotation between Lunging Strike and Whirlwind, you'll also be using Leap whenever you need to quickly get away from a deadly attack while your evade is on cooldown or you want to start fighting an enemy outside of Lunging Strike's range. Additionally, you'll need to rely heavily on shout skills like Rallying Cry and War Cry for extra Fury generation, movement and attack speed, and protection whenever you're in the thick of the fray (these buffs are applied to nearby allies as well). When you need a little extra firepower, use the Call of the Ancients Ultimate to summon three spirit Barbarians that fight at your side.

2 | Lunging Strike | Basic |
3 | Enhanced Lunging Strike | Basic |
4 | Whirlwind | Core |

40-41 | Raid Leader x2 | Brawling |
42 | Booming Voice | Brawling |
43-45 | Heavy Handed x3 | Ultimate |
46-48 | No Mercy x3 | Weapon Mastery |
49 | Pressure Point | Core |
Renown 1-2 | Pressure Point x2 | Core |
Renown 3-5 | Guttural Yell x3 | Brawling |
Renown 6-7 | Thick Skin x2 | Weapon Mastery |
Renown 8-10 | Counteroffensive x3 | Weapon Mastery |
You want Unbridled Rage as your Key Passive for significantly more Whirlwind DPS, along with a huge variety of different passives that improve your Fury generation, raise your offensive and defensive capabilities, and strengthen the effects of your shouts. All of these passives are listed in the table above.
One incredibly powerful skill that levels the build up even further is Hamstring, which makes your Battle Lunging Strike and Furious Whirlwind skills Slow enemies as they inflict Bleeding. This stops monsters from escaping your fury once you're in their face, and also allows you to infinitely take advantage of No Mercy's increased Critical Strike Chance against Slowed foes. You can take advantage of Hamstring even more if you use a two-handed sword for your weapon since its Arsenal bonus deals 20% of your damage as Bleed, or you could opt to use a two-handed axe for extra damage against the targets you make Vulnerable with the Pressure Point passive. Whichever weapon you choose, make sure you use the other's bonus in your Weapon Technique slot.
The best use of your extra Renown points is to max out Pressure Point and Thick Skin, while picking up some useful additional passives like Guttural Yell and Counteroffensive for further combat buffs.
Best Barbarian Aspects, gear, and gems
This Whirlwind build is incredibly strong on its own, but it'll perform even better in the late stages of the campaign and in the endgame with these Legendary Aspects.
