There are plenty of reasons to look forward to Minecraft Live each year for any Minecraft fan, and it tends to be a fun watch, too.

What is Minecraft Live?
Minecraft Live is the modern version of the Minecon from years prior, an in-person Minecraft-themed convention that was retired thanks to the dire effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, Mojang Studios hosts a livestreamed event, during which it reveals news and announcements for the next year of Minecraft. The show is usually a major, exciting affair for the Minecraft community, attracting a massive surge of traffic and online discussion.
Minecraft Live first began in 2020, and returns every year to give players insight into what to expect from the future of the growing Minecraft universe. Consider Minecraft is one of the best Xbox games, and continues to be one of the best-selling video games of all time, there's almost always a lot to cover during Minecraft Live. It's a can't-miss event for the Minecraft community, and Windows Central always covers all the news that comes out of it.

Revisit past Minecraft Live events
Windows Central has covered every Minecraft Live since its inception. Actually, I've been covering every Minecraft Live for Windows Central since 2020, and I'm continuing to do it. If you're curious, you can check out Minecraft Live events for past years.
Just bear in mind that these are older articles, so they may look or behave strangely after all the changes Windows Central has made.
Minecraft Live 2023: What to expect
Minecraft has expanded into quite the sizeable brand. Mojang Studios and its partners are constantly working on countless Minecraft projects, so Minecraft Live is often filled with surprises in addition to what we can reliably expect. Here's a recap of what we know and can speculate:
- The next Minecraft update. Every Minecraft Live shares the first look at the next major vanilla Minecraft content update for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition and Minecraft: Java Edition. In previous years, this was a major affair with lots of concepts, promises, and a finalized name. Now, Mojang is changing how it approaches Minecraft updates, and will only announce features and content additions at Minecraft Live that are already far along in development. In fact, Minecraft players may be able to test those initial features from Minecraft 1.21 shortly after Minecraft Live 2023. I also don't expect to see the update named, as Mojang will likely wait until the update is near release before naming it.
- Future of Minecraft Legends. Minecraft Legends is the latest spin-off Minecraft game, and is a unique action-strategy title that sees players command an armies of loyal mobs in an all-out war against an invading Piglin army. Minecraft Legends is expected to enjoy a solid post-launch support plan, and we may see more of that at Minecraft Live 2023. At the very least, I expect to see a Lost Legend or two, but Mojang may also tease new features or content coming to Minecraft Legends in the future.
- No Minecraft Dungeons. Sadly, I don't think we'll be seeing Minecraft Dungeons at all during Minecraft Live 2023. Recently, it was announced that Minecraft Dungeons has reached 25 million unique players, an impressive milestone. In the same breath, though, it was revealed that the game's last update was in Nov. 2022, and that Minecraft Dungeons is now end-of-life and will not be getting any more updates.
- New Minecraft partnerships. Minecraft Live is always a good opportunity for Mojang Studios to announce new partnerships for the Minecraft franchise, which could manifest as unique projects, new DLC, and more. We may see more DLC for Minecraft or Minecraft: Education Edition, or a long-awaited update on the fabled and mysterious Minecraft live action movie, or maybe even a teaser (or reveal) for a new Minecraft game. I think that last point is highly doubtful, but we can hope.
- The Mob Vote winner. One thing I know we'll see during Minecraft Live 2023 is the results from this year's Mob Vote. Voting will close 15 minutes after the show begins, and Mojang Studios will officially unveil the winner of the Mob Vote at some point during the event. Will the Crab, Armadillo, or Penguin join Minecraft next? We'll have to wait to see.
- An update on Minecraft. Mojang Studios has used Minecraft Live in the past as a stage to update the community on how Minecraft is doing. Will we get a long-awaited update to how many copies Minecraft has sold (the last official number was 238 million, in April 2021)? What about overall engagement? Minecraft's 15th anniversary is also next year (well, if you consider Minecraft's initial beta and not the "official" Minecraft release in 2011), so will Mojang Studios celebrate that in any way? I don't know on any of this; this section is a wildcard.
- ...And Alec Benjamin? This is a strange one. The Minecraft Twitter (X) account posted a picture of someone with an acoustic guitar at Minecraft Live, and tagged Alec Benjamin in the post. Could we be getting some kind of performance from Alec Benjamin himself during the event? That'd be interesting.
Is there anything else you expect to see? Or maybe there's something you want to see during Minecraft Live 2023? Feel free to head to the comments down below and let us know.
